One Direction: British-Irish boyband, heartthrobs, and creators of some of the catchiest and most heart-wrenching songs ever made. With them having just completed 10 years since their formation on the X-Factor in 2010, it's time we make a list of their top ten songs!
DISCLAIMER- These are just my opinions. If you have different ones and you think the order of the list should be changed around, please let us know in the comments! With that being said, let us begin!
10. Over Again
Arguably the second most British song in the history of songs (the first being Little Things), Over Again tells the story of a very messy breakup and of the boys' desire to just go back in time and start it all 'over again'. Written by Ed Sheeran, the song is heartbreakingly honest and will tug at your heartstrings every time you hear it. Also, Liam's falsetto in this song is frankly outstanding.
9. Kiss You
I will admit that I have a personal bias for this song as this was the first one direction song I truly fell in love with. But other than that, Kiss You is a peppy, fun, and sometimes, irritatingly catchy song that will have you dancing just like the boys did in the music video. Moreover, it's just enjoyable to sing with lines like 'drool down their chiny-chin-chins' Also, the music video is adorable so bonus points for that.
8. Tell Me A Lie-
'Up All Night' was the boys' first album and was almost overwhelming with the amount of bubblegum pop it had. The album is still a banger, and that is because of the role of songs like Tell Me A Lie, our pick for number 8. They balanced out the happy, dance-club pop with this up-tempo pop-rock song about not wanting to know the hurtful truth and wanting their partner to lie to them instead. This song is driven by Zayn Malik's vocals and was one of the first songs to hint at his true abilities.
7. Moments-
This ballad broke the hearts of teen girls across the world in 2012 and it still has the same hold over our hearts to this day. The song is about unrequited love, and its listeners feel as though they are experiencing the exact same pain that the boys are. Zayn's solo in the bridge and his high note hit home every single time.
6. Home-
This song just gets the fandom right in the feels as it talks about unexpectedly falling for someone right after having had a failed relationship with someone else. Written by two of the boys, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, the song has one of the most memorable choruses in the boys' entire arsenal of songs. Also, it speaks of the power of the fandom that the song won a Teen Choice Award despite being an extra feature on the Perfect EP, and not even a single!
5. Alive-
Alive is one of the songs that shows just how far the boys have come from their 'What Makes You Beautiful' days and it is an absolute banger. While the lyrics are certainly not PG-13, there is a lot of fun to be had while singing the song at the top of your lungs. The bridge is fabulous with Louis utilizing the full extent of his range and Liam tying it all together with his deadly falsetto.
4. 18-
Another brilliant song, written by Ed Sheeran, this song tells the story of a past relationship that the boys have still not moved on from and would like to start 'over again'. When Four came out, this song has millions of fans crying into their pillowcases and still does. Somehow, Niall's 'We took a chance' meme is not even the most famous part of the song rather, it is the sound of millions sobbing when Louis quietly sings 'I have loved you since we were 18' in the bridge, and it rips our hearts to pieces.
3. Little Black Dress-
Okay, this song deserved to be released as a single. Little Black Dress slays as a song and its simple, yet incredible catchy lyrics have made it a fan favorite. Louis really shines in this song, taking the lead on most of the vocals and adding a rock flair reminiscent of the Rolling Stones. This song also has one of the rarest yet most effective vocal combinations: Louis and Harry.
2. Something Great-
Speaking of songs that didn't get what they deserved, we come to our number 2 pick, Something Great. This song deserved twenty times the attention and credit that it got and should have been performed live! It is just so heart-wrenching and we are willingly pulled through a journey of heartbreak and longing led by Mr Harry Styles. And, of course, then there's the ending. If you didn't cry when you first heard the ending of Something Great and Louis' quiet 'You're all I want. So much it's hurting', then are you really a One Direction fan?
No Control-
I still remember the first time I listened to this song. Night Changes had just ended, and I was smiling sadly at the ceiling. Then, out of nowhere, Louis crooned a high-pitched 'Oh Oh Oh' and I sat up straight. Yes, the song is nowhere near PG-13, but it is so good. Thousands across the globe were shaken when listening to Niall's and Harry's solo in the beginning and it only got worse from there. Zayn's solo in the bridge needs to be preserved in a museum. But, of course, we can't talk about No Control without talking about its creator and star: Louis 'The Tommo' Tomlinson. Tommo the Tease indeed! He absolutely kills this song. This is his song and we are all but mere spectators to his show.
So that was our list of the top 10 One Direction songs. What is your top 10? Comment below and discuss the choices mentioned!
